People Project - I CAN - 2012
Missional Expressions invites you to participate in our annual People Project during the season of Lent and Easter. This is the time of year where we identify with the suffering of the world as we identify with the suffering of Christ.

-
925 million people do not have enough to eat and 98 % of them live in developing countries
-
Asia and the Pacific region are home to over half the world’s population and nearly two thirds of the world’s hungry people.
-
Women make up a little over half of the world's population, but they account for over 60 % of the worlds hungry.
-
65 % of the world's hungry live in only seven countries: India, China, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan and Ethiopia.
-
Undernutrition contributes to five million deaths of children under five each year in developing countries
-
One out of four children - roughly 146 million - in developing countries is underweight
-
More than 70 percent of the world's underweight children (aged five or less) live in just 10 countries, with more than 50 per cent located in South Asia alone.
-
10.9 million Children under five die in developing countries each year. Malnutrition and hunger-related diseases cause 60 % of the deaths.
-
Iron deficiency is the most prevalent form of malnutrition worldwide, affecting an estimated 2 billion people. Eradicating iron deficiency can improve national productivity levels by as much as 20 %.
-
Iodine deficiency is the greatest single cause of mental retardation and brain damage, affecting 1.9 billion people worldwide. It can easily be prevented by adding iodine to salt.
As a community we can make a difference by providing food to people in need within our various projects. So many people suffer and die of malnutrition each year. Please donate canned food to Mosaiek during the time of Lent. Allocated ‘I CAN’ containers are available for contributions. We will be collecting from 26th February until 8th April 2012.
We are collecting canned food such as:
· Corn
· Fish
· Meat
· Spaghetti and meat balls
· Mixed vegetables
A hands-on experience by participating in a Pilgrimage to our community projects will be hosted during the month April and May. For more information, please contact Nerina Reinach @ 011 2684702 or nerinar@mosaiek.com
