Senior Citizens - Nutritional Feeding Scheme

Having had the opportunity to work on the West Rand, it became clear that communities such as Claremont, Mont-Clare, Newlands, Westbury and Coronation are in great need.

The number of senior citizens aged between 75 and a 100 years living on a state pension with no additional income and barely have anything to eat on a daily basis, was brought to our attention by concerned community members.

Process of selection

Each of these families undergoes a screening process in which they are interviewed to establish their individual needs and to make certain they are unable to sustain themselves. Due to circumstances beyond their control, some of these pensioners are forced to support grandchildren and live in constant fear of where the next meal will come from.

Over the past 4 years, food parcels and cooked meals were delivered on a weekly basis to 13 of these families. Due to good relationships and continuous interaction, we ensure that the food parcels are used for the purpose intended and not abused.

During 2010 we managed to deliver 16 848 cooked meals and 1404 food parcels directly to their doorsteps.
