Wat ons verkondig, is die wysheid van God, die verborge waarheid wat bedek was en wat God van ewigheid af vir ons voorbestem het tot ons ewige heerlikheid. Nie een van die heersers van hierdie wêreld het hierdie wysheid geken nie. As hulle dit geken het, sou hulle nie die Here van die heerlikheid gekruisig het nie. Maar soos daar geskrywe staan:

"Wat die oog nie gesien en die oor nie gehoor het nie," en wat in die hart van 'n mens nie opgekom het nie, dit het God gereed gemaak vir dié wat Hom liefhet.

Aan ons dan het God dit deur die Gees bekend gemaak, want die Gees deursoek alle dinge, ook die diepste geheimenisse van God. Watter mens ken die verborge dinge van 'n mens behalwe die gees van die mens wat in hom is? So ook ken niemand die verborge dinge van God nie, behalwe die Gees van God. Die Gees wat ons ontvang het, is nie die gees van die wêreld nie, maar die Gees wat van God kom. So weet ons wat God ons uit genade geskenk het. Dit verkondig ons ook, nie met geleerde woorde wat die menslike wysheid ons leer nie, maar met woorde wat die Gees ons leer. So verklaar ons geestelike dinge aan mense wat die Gees het. Die mens wat nie die Gees van God het nie, aanvaar nie die dinge van die Gees van God nie. Vir hom is dit onsin. Hy kan dit ook nie verstaan nie, omdat dit geestelik beoordeel moet word. Die mens wat die Gees van God het, kan die waarde van alle dinge beoordeel, maar self kan hy deur geen mens beoordeel word nie. Daar staan geskrywe: "Wie ken die gedagtes van die Here? Wie sal Hom raad gee?" Maar ons, ons het die Gees van Christus.

No, we speak of God's secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
However, as it is written:

"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him"-

but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment: "For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

Centering prayer

In Centering Prayer we go beyond thought and image, beyond the senses and the rational mind, to that center of our being where God is working a wonderful work. There God our Father is not only bringing us forth at each moment in His wonderful creative love, but by virtue of the grace of filiation, He is indeed making us sons and daughters, one with His own Son, pouring out in our hearts the Spirit of His Son, so that we can in fullest sense cry, "Abba Father". He says to us, in fact more than in word: "You are My child; this day have I begotten you." At this level of our being, where we are our truest selves, we are essentially prayer, total response to the Father in our oneness with the Son, in that love who is the Holy Spirit.
